About Custom Creations and our Mission

LightDark’s commitment to art and craft

LightDark is a design studio that values the importance of philosophy, art, and craft in our society and vows to pursue a wide variety of classic and modern techniques of material, hand, mind, and heart. When not creating distinctive work for our clients online and on the street, the founder’s time is reinvested in tactical pursuits across candle making, jewelry, sewing, painting, photography, and more.

Mission

LightDark’s mission in Worcester and investment in pop culture and consumer events is to bring representation of female leadership and exposure for delightful, varied, and handmade arts and connect fandoms and individuals seeking a life of creative pursuits with our network and experience as creative professionals to create space for shared interest and mentorship in the metro-west and Worcester area as it develops through contribution.

Origin

Having attended MassArt, I had the exposure to the concept of the ReStore which turned my attention to the concept of managing student materials costs, access, sustainability, and the power of community. I was sure to send off my no-longer-needed and unused materials back with more spirit than that which I sold my textbooks back to the school store; there was a place that massively creative people could access materials — for free — on school grounds, that also enabled me to avoid schlepping my senior studio back home via commuter rail. Years later, after experiencing an apartment fire in Worcester that displaced my just-starting out family, I was stunned by the outpouring of support from both crowdsourcing tools that had developed, but also that I received boxes of art and craft materials in addition to monetary donations after noting the potential damage to my home studio/office.

This outpouring of generosity prompted me to start to find ways to connect with my current flavorful hometown of Worcester, MA. By investing my free creative time into pursuits that bring me joy, demonstrate skills and ingenuity for my daughter, and find an outlet to share those creations with other fandoms and audiences.

2023 Goal: Formalize Presence as Vendor

The vendor touchpoint investments of 2023 across pop culture, creative, and most-importantly local events is our effort to market to other businesses that we may be able to offer services to across the MA area, recoup small business operating costs, as well as activate an avenue for creative outlets to become networking and community outreach portals to connect with new audiences.
